QUANTIFISENS stands for omnifunctional, quantum-inspired fiber sensor systemsâQUANTum-Inspired, omnifunctional FIber SENSor systemsâand describes a novel holistic approach to solving complex sensory customer problems with the help of optical glass fibers, relevant measurement technology, and innovative self-learning software.

THE ALLIANCE
Thirteen partners have joined forces to implement the concept:
- Eleven technology companies – seven SMEs, two start-ups, and two large companies
- Two research institutions – Fraunhofer IOF and Leibniz IPHT
The collaboration between highly innovative, agile small companies and established market players with production experience promises to have a significant impact on the joint innovation base.
THE VISION
The alliance will develop and offer innovative, agile fiber sensor systems. With the aim of building expertise, increasing market presence, and raising awareness, previously unattainable target parameters and properties will be possible after a successful research phase.
Specifically, this will address complex customer problems in two target markets initially:
- Medical imaging and
- Infrastructure monitoring
Optical fiber sensor technology offers significant technological advantages over the solutions currently in use in both markets or addresses customer problems that could not previously be solved. In addition, both markets are interesting in terms of their absolute market size and are growing strongly.

UTILIZATION
QUANTIFISENS addresses different customer segments and requirements in the utilization phase, resulting in the development of a holistic, multifunctional sensor solution with a high level of expertise. In this solution, all components, modules, and software can be optimally coordinated with each other, enabling data-efficient and highly efficient operation. Specific knowledge enables product customization tailored to customer needs at every level of the value chain, ultimately opening up products with unique selling points by combining quantum photonics and sensor technology. Beyond the funding phase, the alliance will address further (sub)markets in line with its market entry strategy.
